In large support of the Galena Cell Tower I can certainly understand how the Forest Service would not want to give permission for a cell tower very easily; but now we taxpayers are paying for two factions of the government to fight it out. This reminds me of a recent occurrence in Hailey. Also reminds me of when George Carlin said that he was going to buy a humidifier and a dehumidifier for his basement and plug them both in, to see who wins. A friend from back east, told me there is an American Legion in his neighborhood that wanted to install a cell tower on their property. Many naysayers came out of the woodwork and maybe it is not a good idea to have cell towers in close proximity to elementary schools until we know more, but anyhow, once he resubmitted his proposal with an American flag atop his tower, most of the naysayers flip flopped and began supporting his wrapped in flag tower. Civilizing Cells Bells While the Galena Summit anti-cell-tower crowd may have a legitimate complaint about the potentially dreadful manners of drivers who might blab on the phone, while distractedly driving over Galena ’s slippy slope, when taken in context with the multitude of benefits that a lifesaving tower could provide, they have blown this argument out of proportion. As with most tools, we can use cell phones for a mix of good and bad purposes. Parents can call to check on their children during extended voyages, to remind them how tenderly they care about them, whereas somebody barreling in the opposite direction might be verbally abusing a victim at the end of their line. If we become receptive to a Galena cell tower, it will then become drivers choices to use their potentially lifesaving phones in responsible ways - just as in ranges where cell phones already work. Galena cell tower would have offered great benefits A friend brought it to my attention that some of the people, who adamantly wrote against any positive aspects of cell phone use in our Sawtooth National Recreation Area and surrounding region , and who won't buy a phone on principal, think it's perfectly OK to borrow other people's phones to make their important calls. Something else that's not being talked about much is that some people in small Idaho communities still unsecured by cell towers hesitate to speak their true feelings out of fear of being shunned--or worse--by the prevailing Flintstone-aged attitudes of their townspeople.
